Much of the training performed by ISC has been developed for site specific applications such as site induction programs or isolation and live testing procedures.
The company has been involved in developing confined space identification procedures with accompanying risk assessments for each potential confined space detailing the reasons why it was or was not deemed to be a confined space.
The company has been heavily involved in the continued Operation of the Hunter Valley Mines Rescue Competition and has played a large part in the development of goals, plans and procedures to ensure the continuation of this competition on a national & international level.
ISC has been extensively involved with training within the mining industry and associated New South Wales industries through presenting accredited training and development of site specific training packages.
The training presented includes WorkCover and SGS state accredited courses, site induction procedures, mine and power industry isolation procedures, inspecting and testing live equipment procedures, and apprentice training programs for plant mechanic's.
Occupational Health and Safety is integrated throughout all facets of ISC operations although projects specifically related include implementation of OH&S sytems in small to medium business, gap analysis for induction procedures and for the new Coal Mine O. H. S. Act and Regulations, workplace safety reviews, shutdown safety observer and the development and restructure of site procedures and documentation to reflect the requirements of the new Act and Regulations.
Since listing as a company Integrity System Consultants have been involved in many projects throughout the industry assisting in various areas of improving on and off site Safety Management in the Workplace. Various Projects have included:
With the director having instigated the Hunter Valley Mines Rescue Competition and chaired the coordinating committee for the past 10 years, it stands to reason that ISC is very much involved in managing the competition. Roles undertaken have been in coordination of exercises, sponsorship, trophies, the venues and administration.
All trucks were decommissioned and had parts removedfrom many of them. They had to be started and floated to a work shop where body repairs were undertaken and ROPS cabs fitted. All wheel motors were rebuilt, vehicles were painted and any other required repairs were undertaken before being loaded on floats and shipped to central QLD.
On two occasions ISC worked with the principal contracting company to assist in managing the progress of the 6 week shutdowns by tracking all tasks undertaken on Microsoft Project. The task required extensive interaction with staff and a sound maintenance background to assist with the recording of all operations.
Cuurently we are coordinating the development of a training package that includes a training video, a promotional video and all assessment material including theory and practical required for a trainer to assess competency.
It is anticipated that the training package will alleviate the need for experienced trainers to travel into remote and sometimes dangerous locations across the world and also provide cost-effective training for the purchaser of the equipment.

We have been involved in in the development of a number of site specific induction programs which are tailored to suit the needs of each company. The induction is mapped against Mining ITAB basic requirements.
Isolation procedures or enhancements have been developed for a number of mines and also power stations. Work has been performed on systems using tags and locks, personal and group isolation as well as permits of isolation. Systems are tailored for the requirements of each company.
The current live testing procedure used throughout the Hunter Valley was originally proposed by ISC after identifying system shortfalls while presenting the lockout system for a major coal producer. The live testing procedure is a separate and essential process involved in any isolation procedures where the inspection, testing or adjustment of any equipment must be done with the equipment energised.
We were involved in the identification and classification of confined space work areas on a mine site in the Hunter Valley. This process involved the detail risk assessment to be used on each identified potential confined space to ascertain whether the space was at risk of engulfment or irrespirable atmosphere or whether it should be managed by risk assessment as a normal place of work.
Accredited NSW training is provided through WorkCover construction induction training and also through SGS with the NSW generic coal mine induction.
Site inductions have been presented for a number of mines including Hunter Valley Earthmoving, Warkworth, Camberwell and Coal and Allied generic.
Training in site specific isolation procedures took place on a number of mine sites and also a local power station. Training differed from site to site, ranging from the use of tags and permits to locks and lockout boxes.
Live testing has been presented as a stand-alone process on several mine sites. It is essential that live testing be considered in any isolation system where inspection, testing or adjusting must take place while the equipment is in an energised state. Consideration must be given to access to the working area, control of personnel in the area, communication and control of the additional hazards while working on energised equipment.
Some time was spent training school leavers in an intensive three-month course on plant mechanic through a government organisation. Successful students who gained employment in the field following the training had the first year of their apprenticeship recognized.
Currently we are performing a gap analysis for a company, reviewing their on-site procedures against the requirements of the new Coal Mine Occupational Health and Safety act And Regulations and editing any shortfalls into their existing procedures prior to change management practices and a rollout to the workforce of any changes incurred.
Designed for small to medium workplaces the workplace safety review provides an initial starting point for business safety systems with a plan outlining the steps to be taken in moving forward with the management of safety.
ISC has been contracted to performed safety observations on a major shutdown for a dragline overhaul. This involved the observation and interaction with employees performing tasks on the shutdown and reporting to the principal contractor and mine management the results of those inspections.
As a member of the Safety Institute of Australia the director was invited to attend a WorkCover forum regarding the research and investigation of manual handling injuries in New South Wales. Manual handling currently produces approximately 37 per cent of injuries in the workplace and WorkCover have implemented a five-year programme to investigate the causes and instigate control measures in an attempt to reduce the number of injuries.
